Following Our Passion
In April of 2010, Elizabeth Kalik read an article in "The Bark" that quoted noted Oregon mycologist Dr. Charles Lefevre as saying that there was a demand for 300 - 400 truffle dogs in Oregon. She knew that she could make that happen.
After retiring her search and rescue (SAR) dog and looking into various canine scent training opportunities, she recruited her long time friend and SAR collegue Kelly Slocum to embark upon the journey that led to the creation of NW Truffle Dogs. It turned out to be the perfect partnership with Kelly's penchant for soil ecology and Elizabeth's passion for behavior modification.
It was immediately apparent that the opportunities were prolific and they could not do it alone. With enthusiasm and drive in spades, Elizabeth and Kelly pulled the rest of the family into the frey and Roy and Allan lent the brains behind what has quickly become a booming K9 scent training academy.
